About SomaRoot Center
A Chico space for care, creativity, and shared practice.
SomaRoot Center is a healing and community space in Chico, California, created for practitioner services, workshops, classes, small gatherings, and aligned space use.
The center grew out of Brae Onnah Sisk’s long-standing work in somatic practice, embodied arts, and community care, including the earlier roots of Chico Body-Wise. Today, SomaRoot offers a local setting where bodywork, counseling, movement, song, ritual, training, and small group offerings can happen with more intention and connection.
What SomaRoot Center Offers
SomaRoot brings together several pathways into care and connection:
practitioner services and one-on-one support
classes, workshops, and community offerings
visiting facilitators and collaborative programs
rentals for small groups, trainings, circles, and gatherings
partnerships with organizations, educators, artists, therapists, and community leaders
Each pathway has its own page so visitors can find what fits their needs.
SomaRoot Center emerged through the leadership and vision of Brae Onnah Sisk, founder of Embody Alchemy.
Brae stewards the center as a shared space where practitioners, facilitators, participants, and partners can contribute to a wider local ecosystem of care. The center reflects Brae’s commitment to body-based practice, consent, agency, creativity, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and the connection between personal healing and collective context.
Individual Care and Group Practice
SomaRoot holds space for both private work and shared experience.
Someone may come for a one-on-one session with a practitioner. Someone else may attend a song circle, movement class, grief workshop, doula training, or creative gathering. A facilitator may inquire about hosting a small group. A community partner may imagine a program that reaches beyond the center itself.
These offerings are not all the same, but they share a respect for the body, relationship, place, and meaningful use of space.
Rooted in Chico & the North State
SomaRoot responds to a real need in Chico and the wider North State region for somatic work, trauma-informed practice, creative process, and accessible local care.
The center is intimate by design. It is shaped by the people who practice here, the facilitators who bring offerings forward, and the needs that emerge from the community itself.
SomaRoot supports what is happening now while remaining open to future collaborations, programming, and partnerships that align with its purpose.
